Private Tutor

If your elementary student is struggling with traditional tutors and needs a tutor who includes them in their own learning process to make sessions fun and flexible......then book now!

I prioritize the student's voice being heard in sessions. I want them to develop an awareness of their learning and advocate for themselves. If they don't understand a concept and need to spend more time on it, I ask them and want them to tell me. If a reading passage is way too easy, I want to know so I can give them an appropriate challenge.

I particularly love supporting home schooling families with targeted short-term tutoring for a specific learning block or year-long learning support for a single subjects or more.

I love to utilize music, movement, and breathing exercises to help learning happen even if feels hard!

To work together please, book a free Parent Inquiry Call. If we decide to work together, you will be sent a booking link for a single lesson. If the lesson goes well, you will receive a special link for a monthly tutoring package. Monthly bookings receive a special discount!

About Me

Hello! I'm Alisa Marie, affectionately known as Miss Alisa to the kids I work with. My passion for nurturing children's growth and learning began years ago during a summer volunteering as a Sunday school teacher. This experience ignited my enthusiasm for education, leading me to also take on the role of Vacation Bible School leader before pursuing my college studies.

Originally a music education major focusing on K-12, my path evolved when I discovered my deep affinity for working with younger children. This passion grew during my time at a local church nursery and continued as I tutored elementary students in reading and math. Ultimately, I graduated with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies, specializing in Families and Children, alongside a BA in Music.

Subsequently, I immersed myself in early childhood education by working at local childcare centers and preschools. This experience revealed a desire to support students with specific needs, prompting my pursuit of additional qualifications as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant. This role allowed me to blend my interests in language, reading, and communication, particularly with students diagnosed with autism.

My journey then led me to join our community's school district as an Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional, and later as an Early Education Special Education Teacher. These positions have been deeply rewarding, allowing me to apply my skills and enthusiasm to help children thrive.

Since leaving the classroom I have focused on private tutoring and supporting home school families with tutoring and coaching.

Skills

  • Early Reading Skills

I make early literacy skills fun with games, songs, and reading practice. I find my Science of Reading training helpful in discovering what skill needs to be targeted for the student to continue advancing in reading.

  • Elementary Math

Basic math and word problems are my particular interest.

  • Writing

I help students express themselves through writing. I include planning strategies like graphic organizers to think through what they want to say and grammar instruction to ensure their sentences are complete. To ensure students have legible handwriting, I also suggest home practice to strengthen their fine motor muscles and increase their writing stamina.
